Army Corps Awards $50 Million Construction Project to Expand Hospital Capacity at Stony Brook University

Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), member of the bipartisan Congressional Coronavirus Task Force, just announced the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $50 million contract to Turner Construction Company to expand hospital capacity at Stony Brook University in light of the ongoing outbreak of coronavirus. This project is part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers efforts to support the FEMA-led response to the pandemic in New York, an effort which totals $350 million in funding to be spent in the state. Construction is expected to be completed by April 18th.

"One of the greatest challenges the continued outbreak of coronavirus poses is the strain it puts on our communities' healthcare system and possible overwhelming of our local hospitals," said Congressman Zeldin. "In New York, every level of government from the President to the Governor to our local officials has worked together to deliver vital resources to Long Island. This injection of federal funding directly into our local community to increase hospital bed capacity at Stony Brook University is the latest aid secured through this bilateral cooperation, and means that more Long Islanders will receive the lifesaving care they need."
